Experimental Sound 1 - Examples

Experimental Sound Lesson 1

In this lesson, Joe showed us many examples of experimental sound art.his included The Double Life of Véronique, One Pig and Florian Hecker.
I've never looking into the concept of 'experimental art' as I've never really understood it but this was a refreshing experience to learn much more about how you can be creative with sounds to create fascinating compositions.

The Double Life of Véronique -
In this film, the audio has been used very carefully to make you picture in your head what she might be doing in her everyday life. This was a very interesting way to show her actions through sound and I enjoyed this very much.

One Pig -
This is an entire album constructed of a pigs life cycle featuring sampled oinks, pig-skin drums and a wind instrument utilising pig's blood. From birth to death we hear snippets of it's like mashed together to create disturbing yet beautiful music.
I didn't really understand the concept of this until I did some more research on why the artist decided to create the album. This enabled me to listen more closely and appreciate the creativity within the peices made.
The artist also performs this album live which is something I' glad I found. It's very interesting to watch.

Live Performance

The story behind the album
